Van Amburgh stool

Van Amburgh 2

The Van Amburgh stool is named after the Great Isaac van Amburgh, ‘The most famous lion tamer that ever lived’. He was rumoured to be Queen Victorias favourite entertainer and regularly made the journey from his native America to London. His portrait still hangs in the national portrait gallery, London.

Available in Red, White and Black Polypropelene, suitable for indoor and outdoor use, from Thorsten van Elten.

Flex chair

An armchair and footstool combination designed for Modus. Available in leather and fabric.

4L Table

4L red

The 4L table has a laser cut walnut and sycamore top, this process known as Marquetry is traditionally done by hand using wood veneers and a scalpel. The use of the laser removes the labour and gives a higher level of accuracy therefore allowing the process to move from individual pieces to batch or mass production.

The base is a repeated L shape in 3mm mild steel and is also laser cut, available in red or white.

Curiosity cabinet

Curiosity 1

The Curiousity box was inspired by Victorian writing desks and Curiosity boxes. This project developed into the idea that the box itself could become the object of curiosity.

The outcome was the curiosity box, a small desktop container that retained some of the proportions and details of the writing desks whilst creating smaller spaces within to store the collections on today’s desks. One of the boxes was produced in Oak as a showpiece for the timeframe show.

HB table

HB closed

HB is based on an old Cedar pencil case. The tray, which covers three quarters of the top, can be completely removed to eat or work from.

HB was made for the timeframe exhibition in Oak with a contrasting interior of Padouk, a naturally vibrant red coloured wood.

Domino sideboard

Domino

The white Formica furniture of the 80s and the utilitarian furniture from 50s inspired the Domino range. The resulting collection is both functional and graphically simple with the holes for finger pulls depicting the dots on dominos.

The collection was designed in collaboration with Morph design as part of the timeframe exhibition. For further information, dimensions and prices of the pieces in the range contact Modus furniture.
